Fridges at 50 °C: what the attack on Danfoss controllers really says about connected device security

On the night of October 11 to 12, 2026, around 400 French supermarkets, according to several media outlets, discovered in the early morning that their refrigerated cabinets and cold rooms were heating up: the Danfoss cyberattack. The attackers stole no data. They took control of the refrigeration control systems and caused…

Bluetooth Low Energy: when legacy pairing and chatty characteristics betray your devices

Two new DVID trainings to explore the blind spots of Bluetooth Low Energy security. Bluetooth Low Energy is everywhere. Fitness trackers, medical sensors, smart locks, portable industrial equipment, connected toys. Its ease of implementation and low power consumption make it a reference protocol for IoT devices. But this same simplicity has a…

Exposed UART, vulnerable MQTT: the doors we forget to close

Two new DVID trainings on forgotten services and interfaces that should not be there. On an IoT/OT device in production, there is what is documented — and what is left over from development. Debug interfaces, technical ports, services left listening to ease tuning…

Secrets in the firmware: three flaws, one root cause

Three new DVID trainings to explore secret leaks in embedded systems. An API key hardcoded in the binary. An administrator password displayed in clear text in the debug console. A firmware accepted without any signature check. Taken individually, each of these defects seems obvious to fix. But…

Default password on an IoT device: when the first line of defense does not exist

A factory password left in production. It is one of the most documented vulnerabilities in IoT incident reports, and yet one of the most persistent. From surveillance cameras to industrial control systems, thousands of connected devices are still deployed with default credentials available to any attacker.

Understanding firmware security… by actually practicing it

A new DVID training to reveal the invisible mistakes that compromise IoT/OT devices. Embedded firmware security is often seen as a field reserved for reverse engineering experts or cryptographers. Yet most compromises do not come from sophisticated attacks, but from simple design flaws found in thousands of…
