DVID: who are we?

DVID: who are we?
At DVID, we start from a simple belief: to understand the cybersecurity of connected objects, you have to practice it.
We do not believe in top-down training, nor in platforms that turn security into abstract theory.
Our mission is to make IoT cybersecurity concrete, accessible and lasting.
How? By offering an experience that is technical, fun and transferable to the real industrial world.
A mission: making IoT security accessible and practicable
The Internet of Things is everywhere: in factories, consumer products and critical infrastructure.
Yet its security often remains a topic reserved for a handful of experts.
We want to change that.
DVID is an IoT cybersecurity training SaaS platform, backed by an open source electronic board.
Our trainings are built like game scenarios, where you learn to exploit and fix real flaws.
The goal: enable everyone, whether engineer, student, trainer or consultant, to understand and handle IoT vulnerabilities in a concrete way. "You learn better by breaking and fixing things than by reading a PDF." — Arnaud Courty, President of DVID

A vision: becoming the European reference for IoT cyber training
Our ambition is to make DVID the European reference for upskilling technical and industrial teams in IoT cybersecurity.
This vision rests on three pillars:
- Open source as a driver of trust: the DVID board is open, documented and repairable. No proprietary hardware, no hidden dependencies.
- Gamification serving pedagogy: each training is a scripted technical challenge, with a score, progression and detailed solutions.
- Grounded in real business needs: the exercises are not abstract, they are based on real customer issues, such as securing a supply chain or testing a white-label product.
Our DNA: expertise, pedagogy and openness
DVID was born from the meeting of three field-driven cyber engineers: Arnaud Courty, Lionel Caubet and Dorian Peluso.
After several years auditing, fixing and training in large groups such as Sopra Steria, Deloitte and Dipole Security, they wanted to create a tool that goes beyond slides and virtual labs.
DVID's DNA rests on five founding values:
1. Field expertise: our trainings are created by professionals for professionals, inspired by real cases.
2. Transferability: everything learned can be applied immediately in the company.
3. Gamification: learning becomes an experience, not a chore.
4. Pedagogy: each path is progressive, guided and documented.
5. Openness: open source code, a contributing community and technical transparency.
A story rooted in the cyber community
Before being a startup, DVID is an open source project.
Born in 2019 under the name Damn Vulnerable IoT Device, it was quickly adopted by schools such as ESILV, Oteria and INSA, and by enthusiasts at events such as Grehack, Sthack and Barbhack.
The project was listed in the well-known list of Damn Vulnerable Applications https://github.com/vavkamil/awesome-vulnerable-apps and recommended on the IoT Security Research Group (IoTSRG) channel.
To this day, it remains open to contributions — proof that pedagogy and community can move forward hand in hand.
A European innovation, designed for schools and industry
DVID addresses two complementary worlds:
- Schools and training centers that want to offer concrete, reusable and motivating IoT cyber courses.
- Industrial companies that want to upskill their teams on their own use cases.
Our electronic board, co-developed in Nouvelle-Aquitaine and manufactured in Europe, also reflects our commitment to sovereign and responsible cybersecurity.
We work with partners such as Zentek, Naqtronic and Scaleway, with an eco-design and transparency approach.

Why we do what we do
Because you cannot defend what you do not understand.
Because security should not hold innovation back, but accelerate it.
And because by training those who design tomorrow's objects, we help make the whole ecosystem safer.
DVID is the first European IoT cyber training platform that combines:
- an open source electronic board,
- an immersive SaaS platform,
- and gamified scenarios inspired by real life.
Our mission:
👉 enabling everyone to understand, assess and improve the security of connected objects, through a didactic, accessible and engaging experience.
